The American Issues Project today announced the debut of a new television advertising campaign examining the relationship between Sen. Barack Obama and unrepentant 1960's domestic terrorist, William Ayers. The ad -- entitled "Know Enough?" -- begins with a simple, yet pointed question: "Beyond the speeches, how much do you really know about Barack Obama?"

Despite Obama’s efforts to silece this ad by intimidating TV stations and filing a lawsuit, he can’t refute it because its all true! The American Issues Project respond to his attempt to silence them:

The legendary Spanish poet and author Miguel de Cervantes said, ”Tell me what company you keep and I’ll tell you what you are.” Well, the company Sen. Obama keeps is downright troubling. Of course, the mainstream media has neglected to cover Sen. Obama’s lesser points and so the stories of his associations with anti-American terrorists like William Ayers have gone largely untold. But the American Issues Project launched a new ad examining the relationship between Sen. Obama and unrepentant terrorist William Ayers.
- Brutally Honest
- Love, Hope and Justice from the William Ayers...
In the interview, conducted three years after the September 11 attacks, Ayers argued the U.S. government had carried out “many other acts of terror … even recently, that are comparable,” and claimed he and his bomb-planting comrades were “restrained” in their actions.
Reflux: Obama's Attorneys attempt to censor political ad
Sen. Barack Obama is warning TV stations and asking the Justice Department to intervene in an attempt to block the airing of American Issues Project ad, (see above), which links him to an unrepentant domestic terrorist. Obama campaign lawyer Robert Bauer wrote to station managers, the AP said, warning: "Your station is committed to operating in the public interest, an objective that cannot be satisfied by accepting for compensation material of such malicious falsity."
Many of the stations airing the anti-Obama ad are owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group, also faced a multi-pronged attack by Kerry's campaign over its plan to air a documentary " "Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal", which featured former POWs telling how Kerry's 1971 testimony to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee was used as propaganda against them by their North Vietnamese captors.
Christian Pinkston, who said his group's non-profit status allowed it to participate in elections as long as it does a majority of policy work, which it plans to do. “This is a sad ploy to circumvent the First Amendment by a campaign who has no arguments with the merits of our ad. It’s the classic maneuver: If you can’t win on the merits, file a lawsuit,” said a spokesman for the American Issues Project.

- Obama to DOJ: Block terrorist ad
Obama’s campaign has written the Department of Justice demanding a criminal investigation of the “American Issues Project,” the vehicle through which Dallas investor Harold Simmons is financing the advertisements. The Obama campaign — and tens of thousands of supporters — also is pressuring television networks and affiliates to reject the ads. The effort has met with some success: CNN and Fox News are not airing the attacks.

So the answer to the question depends upon whether AIP, like the actual MCFL organization and the NARAL Pro-Choice America, actually engages in other activities besides independent spending in federal elections. Bob's letter claims that the group does not appear to have engaged in any other activities. The Mitchell letter claims in contrast that "the majority of AIP's annual expenditures are not political expenditures but are devoted to grassroots lobbying and education on issues, public policies and other communications, activities and programs appropriate to a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization in accordance with all applicable provisions of the Internal Revenue Code."

The Obama campaign has written the DOJ asking them to investigate American Issues Project for an ad they are airing linking Obama to Bill Ayers. Is there a link - aside from the fact that Ayers hosted a campaign type get acquainted party for Obama, they also had a working relationship.

- Attorneys for unrepentant Terrorist Bill Ayers go to Bat for Obama
Yes, I told you so. Way back in December I made what I thought was the obvious point that Barack Obama’s old friend, Bill Ayers, would likely become the poster child for one avenue of attacks against the presumptive Democratic nominee. Barack and his acolytes averted their eyes and harrumphed that this is preposterous.

- New Obama ad: Why is McCain trying to distract us with that unrepentant terrorist I’m friends with?
Mark Halperin has the clip, which is ironic since he described Ayers with the same polite euphemism yesterday that The One’s ad team uses here (George Will thankfully was there to correct him). Conventional political wisdom demands a forceful response to a forceful attack, but even so, I can’t quite believe Obama would throw fuel on the Ayers thing by running a reply ad.
