New Method For Creating Stem Cells Does Not Require Embryos As Starting Points
According to the investigator at Mount Sinai Hospital, the new method of generating stem cells does not require embryos as starting points, could be used to generate cells from many adult tissues such as a patient's own skin cells, and form the basis for treatment for many diseases and conditions that are currently considered incurable such as spinal cord injury, macular degeneration, diabetes, Parkinson's disease, and others.

Of interest is the fact that to date there have been zero cures found using embryonic stem cells which require the destruction of the living human embryo whereas adult stem cells have been successfully used to treat several diseases and conditions including leukemia, heart ailments and paralysis. This new method uses a novel wrapping procedure to deliver specific genes to reprogram cells into stem cells.
