SACRAMENTO, Calif., Dec. 19 /Christian Newswire/ -- The official proponents of Proposition 8 and their campaign committee, ProtectMarriage.com -- Yes on 8, filed written briefs with the California Supreme Court today defending the voter-approved initiative against legal challenges. The three anti-Prop 8 lawsuits were initiated by opponents the day after the measure passed in the November General Election.
California AG Jerry Brown promised to uphold the will of the people. Then the anti-Prop. 8 mob reared its ugly head. So, now he's changed his mind.Feel the power of the rainbow-colored fist:
Unless you've been living in a cave in Afghanistan, you know that Proposition 8 won at the ballot box and is being challenged in court. I am often asked, "What is going on? What does it all mean?" Ruth Institute's Academic Advisory Board Member Helen Alvare wrote this very clear explanation of the issues involved in the legal challenge to Prop 8.
It's from Black and White, "Birmingham's City Paper." The author, Jeff Jacoby, is identified as a columnist for the Boston Globe. His question: where is the real bigotry and hate being displayed?
Probably the best piece I've seen written so far on the gay rights movement and Proposition 8: Civil Rights and Gay Marriage.
Now is the time to stand together to protect the rights of minority religious communities to participate in the political process without fear of violence, intimidation, or vandalism.
Please sign the petition below to join us as we stand together to say "Enough!" to the campaign of hate and intimidation being waged against the LDS Church and other supporters of California's Proposition 8.
The editor of a new book, Same Sex Marriage and Religious Liberty: Emerging Conflicts, summarizes the general issue this way: "All six contributors (to the book)--religious and secular, left, center and right--agree that same sex marriage is a threat to religious liberty." The demand for same sex marriage brings in its wake a demand for identical treatment of same sex couples and opposite sex couples. Churches that resist this demand can have their tax exempt status challenged, can be investigated by "human rights commissions," and can have parts of their operation shut down completely. ...
... What is clearer than ever is that same sex marriage threatens religious liberty. Disagreement over the extent of that threat played a key role in the debate over Proposition 8. As an independent consultant to the campaign, I must say that the post-election behaviour of the opponents of Prop 8 does not reassure religious believers.
The ProtectMarriage.com told the Court that a stay of Proposition 8 would undermine the preeminence of the Constitution as the ultimate expression of the people's will. "Enjoining or staying the enforcement of Proposition 8 - as if it were a mere statute or municipal ordinance to be set aside by the judiciary pending further proceedings, rather than a presumptively valid expression of the people's sovereign will - would be widely perceived as the judiciary ignoring or countermanding the supremacy of the Constitution and silencing the voice of the people on a vitally important matter of public policy. That would be deeply harmful to the democratic process."
The Constitution of California gives the right and responsibly for government squarely on its citizens. The simple elegance of its recall process makes plain that the authority and duty to control the states judiciary resides with the people.
For years now the homosexual community has been accusing Christians and conservatives of being hate-filled and intolerant, but in the wake of California voters passing Proposition 8 making same-sex marriage illegal there, we're seeing very real evidence that the homosexual community is only loving and tolerant of views that oppose their own as long as things are going their way. Having suffered a staggering setback on November 4th, their hackles are up in a way that I've never seen the Christian community's raised toward them.
The ACLU -- which donated $1.2 million to defeat the marriage amendment -- is now saying that the people of California have no right to amend their Constitution! Help us fight the ACLU's attacks on marriage! Liberty Counsel has filed a "Motion To Intervene" to defend against these outrageous lawsuits. Once again, Liberty Counsel is at the center of this legal battle -- but our Legal War Chest has been depleted by numerous recent cases and our successful grassroots efforts in support of key marriage amendments in CA, FL and AZ.
ACLU, LAMBDA and other anti-marriage groups have filed three lawsuits asking the California Supreme Court to strike down the recently passed California Marriage Amendment as being unconstitutional.
Rage. That is what many homosexuals are feeling because of voters passing Proposition 8, a California state constitutional amendment that recognizes marriage as only between a man and a woman.
You mess with the pink mafia-- You pay the price. ... Scott Eckern, the Sacramento theater director, donated in support of California's Prop. 8 ban on same-sex marriage, now he must pay. Eckern stepped down from his position at the theater on Wednesday, his artistic home since 1984.
While the rest of the country is planning for a national day of Thanksgiving in November, radical gay leaders around the nation are planning a "National Day of Protest" on Saturday, November 15, 2008, coming to a city near you. The self proclaimed champions of tolerance, diversity and respect for others have chosen a clutched fighting fist as their logo and are using phrases like "Ready to Rumble", "Join the Impact" and "Fight the H8 (Hate)" as their slogans. These really winsome and civil minded slogans are sure to endear the American people even closer to the gay agenda and to their movement which is becoming increasingly intolerant, disorderly and aggressive.
Ready to "Rumble and Fight"
A radical gay group in Michigan crashed an evangelical church service on Sunday. The radicals interrupted the service rushed the pulpit with a megaphone, noise makers, condoms, glitter by the bucket load, confetti, and pink fabric while screaming at the churchgoers. This was in Michigan.
The governor of California was elected as a Republican but has governed like a far left ideologue. From environmental legislation to raising taxes, he's unrecognizeable as the politician who only six years ago was promising to clean up Sacramento and lead from the political center. All that he's proven is that he can lie like the best of them, and now he's gone back on his word concerning same-sex marriage.
Yep, Arnold Schwarzenegger -- who wants to "rebrand" the Republican Party in his image -- apparently applauds the mob taking to the streets and targeting people of faith:
The GOP governor of California is encouraging church-bashing protesters to continue to defy the will of the people and wreak havoc until Proposition 8, the traditional marriage ballot measure, is overturned.
Protesters in West Hollywood near a Mormon Temple (click into picture for larger view) Neil on his blog wrote an article with excerpts from WorldNetDaily.com that talk about the anger rising with many Gays who are threatening physical harm. Although Christians have been tagged as the bigots, intolerant, and compared to the Taliban or the [...]
By David BenkofJust as many Jews tend to gravitate to liberal positions on a variety of issues, the segment of the Jewish community favoring same-sex marriage has grown larger and louder in the past few years. That's unfortunate, because if any issue has a "Jewish view," it's this one, and that view opposes redefining marriage. Some reasons:%95 First and foremost, same-sex marriage is against Jewish law. "So what?" many have argued, "we don't try to ban pork or outlaw spending money on Shabbat." But unlike those two transgressions, the prohibition of same-sex marriages - both religious and civil - is a Noahide law, as explained in the Talmud (Masechet Hullin). That means the ban on same-sex marriage, like the bans on adultery and murder, also apply to non-Jews. We therefore have a strong interest in rejecting such nuptials, regardless of the religion of the participants.
